The Horizon DECA Cheryl Brown Marketing Scholarship Winners:
Each spring the Horizon High School Marketing Program awards a college scholarship to an exceptional graduating Horizon Marketing student/DECA member. Seniors who feel they have made a significant contribution to the Horizon Marketing Program and their Horizon DECA Chapter may apply for the scholarship. Applicants are interviewed in May by a panel of Horizon High School's Marketing and Business Advisory Committee members to determine who the recipient(s) will be. The scholarship(s) is(are) funded by profits from the DECA Hawks Nest student run school store. The scholarship is named in honor of former Marketing teacher, Cheryl Brown, who started the Marketing Program at Horizon High School when it opened in 1988, taught Marketing and was DECA Advisor for 17 years at Horizon High School until her retirement in 2005

This year was another successful State Leadership Conferences for Horizon High School DECA. Of the 36 actual competitors, we placed 11 in the finals, unfortunately none of our final round competitors qualified for the International Career Development Conference in Atlanta this spring.

2007 Colorado DECA State Leadership Conference Winners:
This year was the most successful State Leadership Conferences ever for Horizon High School DECA. Of the 57 actual competitors, we placed 13 in the finals, with 5 competitors qualifying for the International Career Development Conference in Orlando this spring.
Mario Giampieri - 1st place in the Technical Sales Event and an International Competition qualifier! (Mario is only the 5th student from Horizon to place 1st at the State Conference!)
Rachel Moroney - 2nd place in the Quick Service Restaurant Management Event and an International Competition qualifier for the second consecutive year!
Bryce Brown - 4th place in the Quick Service Restaurant Management Event and an International Competition qualifier for the second consecutive year!

2007 District 1 Conference Winners/2008 State Leadership Conference Qualifiers:
Horizon DECA took 68 competitors to the DECA District 1 competition at Johnson & Wales University in Denver on Friday, November 30; qualifying 31 in the Individual and Team Decision Making Events. Horizon DECA members competed with DECA members from Denver West, Colorado Learning Academy, Kennedy, Legacy, Northglenn, Mountain Range, Overland, Rangview, Westminster and Thomas Jefferson High Schools for the right to compete at the DECA State Leadership Conference in February.
