Horizon Hawks rally for Type 1 Diabetes Awareness

Horizon Hawks rally for Type 1 Diabetes Awareness

On Friday, January 23, Horizon High School Boys Basketball hosted the Hawk Hurl for Diabetes Awareness, an evening dedicated to supporting athletes and families impacted by Type 1 Diabetes.

Our program is home to six student-athletes living with T1D. In their honor—and to raise awareness for everyone battling diabetes—we partnered with our community to raise funds for the Children’s Diabetes Foundation (CDF), the fundraising arm of the Barbara Davis Center, where many of our athletes have received life-changing care and support.

As we advertised the event, our student-athletes courageously shared their personal experiences living with Type 1 Diabetes, helping show younger kids that diabetes does not define them or limit their abilities—on or off the court.

Fans purchased stars that were thrown onto the court at halftime, with the star landing closest to center court winning a prize basket generously donated by local businesses. Every penny raised went directly to the Children’s Diabetes Foundation, and together with our community, we raised over $1,000 in support of CDF’s mission.

The event brought together community members from across the district and metro area whose lives have been touched by Type 1 Diabetes. We were also honored to have the doctors who care for our athletes in attendance, making the night even more meaningful.

The Hawk Hurl was more than a fundraiser—it was a celebration of community, resilience, and awareness. It was an unforgettable night that highlighted the power of coming together for a cause that truly matters
