Hello! And WELCOME to your Spanish class this year!!
I will be teaching Spanish 3 as well as the Spanish for Heritage Speakers class. I also am one of the Sponsors for the "Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica". Even though things are going to look different, I am excited to get to know you and to work with you throughout this year.
OFFICE HOURS:
- 2nd hour and 6th hours are my plan times (refer to the Horizon schedule for specific times)
- I will also be available on Wednesdays (our non-synchronous days) during the regular Wednesday schedule. Students can jump into a zoom meeting with me on Wednesdays by using the same link we use the other days of the week for their classes.
- INTERVENTION is open to all my students at the same time. If your buddy has me a different hour, you can come to the meeting together.
Although these are my official office hours, I will check my email often. When I am not "teaching" (streaming), I will have access to my email so it is your best bet to reach me that way.
Here is a little bit about me: I was a double major at Western State College (now Western State Colorado University). I began my teaching carreer in Las Animas, CO where I taught band, choir, music theory and Spanish. When I moved to Adams 12-Five Star Schools, I worked at Westlake Middle School teaching Spanish only. My first year at Horizon was 2006 where I continue to teach Spanish. Recently I picked up the Spanish for Heritage Speakers class. This course is designed to build upon literacy skills in Spanish. I also enjoy sponsoring la Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (Spanish Honor Society) with Laura Van Roekel. When I am not teaching, I am spending time with my family. When we get the opportunity, we enjoy going to the lake to do a little paddle boarding. For more quite times, I love to read and I usually have a couple different books going at the same time (in English and in Spansih).
Helpful tips: The best way to keep track of what is happening in our class is to visit our schoology course and to keep track of grades through infinite campus. Students are assigned an account through https://adams12.schoology.com/ for this year and will visit the site every day. Assignments, notes, links to websites, special practice and dates of assessments are all posted in an easy to use format. Study new vocabulary right before bedtime. Your brain stores information while you sleep and generally what you study right before sleep is stored a little more easily (so I've been told). Use Spanish as often as possible, even if you are just walking around the house talking to yourself - or the dog. The more you hear your OWN VOICE speaking Spanish, the less intimidating it is to speak up with others. Remember that ou will get out what you put into the class. This is especially true with languages. AND LAST, always try to have fun with what you do. There is nothing we will do that is worth getting stressed about.
